I live in a 70 year old house and old houses, being as they are, are prone to invasions of certain kinds of pests. In the last week I have trapped and disposed of the remains of eight (yes, 8!) furry little rodents that decided to make their home underneath my kitchen sink. There is a wonderful mouse trap available called the 'Better Mouse Trap'. It is a gray plastic trap that works a bit like a spring loaded bulldog clip. The great thing about it is that when the mouse is trapped the head can't be seen - wonderful for the slightly squeamish like me. Don't, however, make the mistake I did. After hearing the trap spring I suggest you wait a decent interval before opening the cupboard door before disposing of the contents of the trap. You want to give enough time for the poor thing to be properly dead and not wriggling its little legs!

I have discovered that I have 'something' in my basement. It is eating all the miscellaneous bugs. Don't know what it is but I have my suspicions that it is a garden snake. Ugh! I hate snakes.
We once had a mouse plague in the hotel we lived in. Took awhile for the pest man to get rid of them. I had previously caught 9 mice- in my hand- in a cupboard.
At least your mouse family didn't die in your roof cavity!
Eww. I too am glad you didn't post pictures! I went to the hardware store last year sometime to ask about mouse traps, and the young clerk I managed to find apparently thought I should be setting the rodent free somewhere, because she had a hard time helping me find something like what you found.
I HATE them! We tried to Be humane, but I heard they just come straight back. We had one that eluded us for weeks, made me feel so ill! In the end he met his fate, but I still squirm everytime I hear what i think is scratching - yeugghhh!
I hope you haven't discovered what I did about those dinky grey mouse traps - They can grab little bits of mouse without actually killing the mouse ! yucky !! I dropped the less dead over the bank but now my dinky grey traps are looking all chewed !!! I did win the battle - well until next winter. With all the bush around here they little B's head inside as soon as it gets cold. Elizabeth
